Meredith Starr

Forces of Nature

September 1 - 25, 2016

Amos Eno Gallery is pleased to present Forces of Nature, a solo exhibition featuring new drawings and paintings by Meredith Starr. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 16, 7- 9 PM at the gallery’s new location at 56 Bogart Street in Brooklyn, NY. Dopplegangers, Domesticity, and Desire: An evening of performed literary works, curated by Sarah Kain Gutowski, will be a featured event during the exhibit, to be held on September 23, 7 - 9 PM.

In Forces of Nature, Starr continues giving visibility to the microscopic. Meticulously drawn cellular structure and hormone secretions come together to tell the story of our biology blending with our humanity. These works contrast with her painting’s raw urgency- layered colors and scraped away paint convey impassioned memories. Starr returns to the figure in this exhibition, using traditional form to play with the imagery that advanced technology enables us to see. She invites the viewer to experience an awareness of the invisible forces inside them.

Meredith Starr received her bachelor’s degree from New York University and is a graduate of Long Island University’s Master of Fine Arts program. In the last 5 years, Starr has shown her work at galleries and institutions in New York, Chicago, Washington DC and abroad, including the Brooklyn Transit Museum, The Target Gallery, and The Hague. She is a full time faculty member of SUNY Suffolk County Community College where she teaches Visual Arts.
