My practice explores abstraction through mixed media and fragmented forms, allowing the canvas to have the final word. The canvas becomes a living entity, materials guiding me as much as I shape them. In this dynamic dialogue, the work discovers me, revealing art’s power as a universal language that transcends time and discipline. Each piece is a journey, an act of surrender to art’s boundless potential to elevate and connect us. As an artist, I remain an apprentice to this force, striving to translate its light into works that breathe life into our shared human experience.

My path to materials came at a very early age. I grew up on home construction sites. My grandfather was a builder. From the age of two I began to construct art. However, at the time I called art “forts” or “houses” or “castles.” As the son of a mentally challenged mother, going “on the job” was a refuge from the tumult at home.

This background led me to rely on eBay, junk shops and Home Depot with their reclaimed interior and exterior house paint, home artifacts and house building materials. Additionally, I consciously avoid using traditional tools to apply the paint and rely solely on my hands, found sticks, hammers, knives, mixing stirrers and the canvas itself. I work intuitively, from what feels like a primal drive, to create sensations and visceral responses to the paintings as they unfold rather than relying on my cognitive or intellectual faculties.
