Isabella Scott is an artist living and working in New York City. She primarily works in oil paint, watercolor, and pen but frequently explores other mediums. Both pattern and color theory are central to her work. Isabella has a degree in Studio Art from Tulane University where she was awarded The Alberta “Rusty” Collier Memorial Award in 2D Art. Her work has been shown at The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and at SPRING/BREAK in New York. She participated in the Mudhouse Artist Residency in Greece in 2022 and in the Every Woman Biennial in 2026. Isabella currently works as a production assistant in a commercial art studio.
On its surface, Isabella Scott’s work is about pattern and color. Conceptually, she is interested in subverting patriarchy, heteronormativity, and capitalism by creating time-consuming and meticulous works. Her art is inspired by typically feminine crafts and is an ode to the unpaid labor performed by women. Colorful, imaginative, campy, and occasionally kitschy, her work is a celebration of femininity and queerness.
Isabella finds inspiration within the queer community, creating paintings that are unrestrained in their use of color and rooted in maximalism, an aesthetic of queer liberation. Her paintings are unapologetically femme as she works to reclaim the medium which is dominated by men. She makes work that is accessible and thought provoking. It is a result of years of exploring what connects us, a manifestation of love for humanity, a passion for equity, and, like generations of women before her, a desire to contribute something meaningful to her communities.
