Mimi Oritsky

The primary focus of my work has been the particular quality of airspace and how it can be translated into paint. While drawing the elements from above, I am aware of the loss of level and the right angle. I use these losses to explore space, scale and time. While moving away from the aerial sense of perspective, I remain above the view, watching the air contain itself within the pre-defined parameters of space. In this sense, I come completely to terms with my environment to create a space structured by light and a surface marked by the rhythm of the moving air.

Mimi Oritsky received an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Univ. of Pennsylvania, School of Fine Arts and a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. Oritsky has received Purchase Awards: Reading Public Museum, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts/Arcadia Univ. and Residence Fellowships from the Heliker-LaHotan Fdn, the Millay Colony for the Arts and the Artists for Environment Fdn. She lives and works in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
